Love sucks. Too bad it's what keeps the human race going.

Valentine's day is this week and I explain why, while having a crush can be oh so amazing, the after is one of the worst feelings ever.

You know, there’s no better feeling than knowing there’s one person you just can’t wait to get up and go to school to see. One person that makes you feel amazing and gives you butterflies every time you see them and makes your knees go weak when they hug you. One person that makes your heart perform gymnastics when you think about them.

That being said, there’s no worse feeling than knowing that one person, the one you’re willing to give everything to, doesn’t feel the same way towards you. I know what you’re thinking. She’s only in high school; she can’t know a thing about love. And you’re right. I know nothing about love. I’ve never been in a relationship, I’ve only been on one date, and I’ve only been kissed one time (that’s much too complicated to explain right now). So yeah, I know nothing about love.

But I have quite a bit of experience with crushes, and though I’ve never really experienced what it’s like to lose someone you love, I can tell you finding out the one who makes getting up at 5 in the morning worthwhile, the one who makes you search the halls to find and smile like an idiot when you find them, doesn’t like you back, or worse, likes or is in a relationship with someone else hurts worse that passing a freaking kidney stone.

Sure, you can listen to all the β€œI don’t need you, I am woman/man, hear me roar” songs you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that your heart hurts. It feels like the person ripped your heart out, threw it on the ground, and kicked it across the room. And you know what the worst part is? The person doesn’t even know what happened, what they did, which means you can’t be mad at them. You have to keep seeing them, every day and they don’t even know that you are hurting.

At least if you’re in a relationship and break up then you can be mad and stop seeing the person and they know what happened. With crushes you have to keep your emotions bottled up and hope no one notices you acting weird because then you have to explain what happened and really, who wants to relive the heartache? No one. Plus, nobody goes around crying that their crush doesn’t like them.

That’s the trouble with society, we have to go through all these emotions and have our hearts feel like they’ve been trampled by a herd of elephants just have to keep the terribly sad emotions to yourself. I’d say crushes suck but those feelings of being in, shall we say like, are amazing and I certainly don’t want to give them up. It’s the falling out of like that’s the terrible part. It’s cruel and it hurts but I guess without it there’d be no attraction and then there’d be no babies and the human race would be extinct. But it still sucks.
