Chateau Ste. Michelle Celebrating 50th Anniversary Year

The state's oldest winery is half a century old this year, and it's celebrating with events and a commemorative wine.

WOODINVILLE, WA - The state's oldest winery will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, and will celebrate by releasing a commemorative wine and hosting a series of events throughout 2017.

Chateau Ste. Michelle was originally founded in 1934, but didn't begin producing wine until 1967. Here's how the winery plans to mark the 50th anniversary throughout the year:

50th Anniversary Special Bottling Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley
The winery will release a commemorative label Cabernet Sauvignon in April, a tribute to the first bottles released in 1967. The winery will also release a magnum bottling of the wine.

Golden Cork Sweepstakes
From April 1 to Sept. 30, there will be a chance to win prizes inside 50th anniversary Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon bottles. Four grand prize winners could win a trip for two to visit the winery in Woodinville.

2017 Summer Concert Series
Artists are still TBA, but the winery is promising there will be special guests announced in April for the June to September concert series.

IMPETUS
In September, the winery will release 4,800 numbered bottles of IMPETUS (750ml, SRP $125) by Chateau Ste. Michelle, a blend of three varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Malbec) that are not traditionally blended.

The winery will release an illustrated coffee table book telling the story of the Washington wine industry and Chateau Ste. Michelle’s role in it.

Expanded Visitor Center
The winery is hoping to open an expanded visitors center by August. The expansion will double the size of the center to over 22,000 square feet. The new visitors center will feature a 70-seat theater, a room where visitors can blend their own wine, private tasting rooms, and more.

50th Anniversary Weekend
A number of events will mark grand opening for the new visitors center, which will be held over the Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2 - 3.
