Duvall Heritage Festival Happens Saturday

Duvall will play host for a day of hands-on fun, learning, and reminiscing at the Duvall Heritage Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Located at the historic Dougherty House and Farmstead at 26526 NE Cherry Valley Road in Duvall, this festival is free and open to the public.

Following are just some of the activities:

• Enjoy traditional drumming performed by the Snoqualmie Tribe, a culture that has been present in the Puget Sound region for generations.
• Be a pioneer! Shell corn, make cider, braid rope, churn butter, and wash clothes the old fashioned way. Watch a blacksmith, learn about logging, sit on antique tractors, and watch a team of mules plow a field.
• Shake hands with Duvall’s first mayor elected in 1913, and visit with other figures from the early 1900’s (All played by very convincing actors).
• Kick up your heels and dance to traditional dance music performed by Tinker’s Dram, or tap your toes in time to tunes by the Novelty Hill Ramblers, a longtime local band. You can also relax to Snoqualmie Valley folk music and stories by Bob Antone.
• Tour the Dougherty Farmstead, a National Landmark that includes a well-preserved example of a late 19th century farmhouse built one year prior to Washington’s statehood. Antique quilts will also be on display at the Dougherty House, as well as at the 11th Annual Duvall Quilt Show on historic Main Street in downtown Duvall, a separate event happening that same day. Guided tours of the restored logging bunk house, milk house, and old tool display, will also be available.
• And don’t forget to take a peek at the pioneer cemetery located nearby.

Complimentary parking is available at Holy Innocents Catholic Church just east of the Dougherty Farmstead on Cherry Valley Road. Handicapped parking is available on site. A free shuttle will transport visitors from Duvall’s Main Street
to the Heritage Festival.
