Deadly Horse Herpes Found At Woodinville Stable

State officials confirmed the case in at least one horse at Gold Creek Equine Facility in Woodinville.

WOODINVILLE, WA - A horse at a Woodinville stable is sick with a deadly equine herpes virus, and state officials have issued three quarantine orders to prevent a larger outbreak

Officials from the state Department of Agriculture on April 5 confirmed a case of EHV-1 at Gold Creek Equine Facility in Woodinville. Gold Creek is under quarantine and the sick horse has been isolated.

Two locations in Snohomish County - a private home in Monroe and a stable in Snohomish - are also under quarantine. Horses from Gold Creek had visited those two places recently, according to state officials.

EHV-1 is extremely contagious. Symptoms to look for include:

  • Fever of 102.5F or higher
  • Swollen limbs
  • Spontaneous abortions
  • Neurological signs such as unsteady gait, weakness, urine dripping, lack of tail tone and recumbency.
  • Respiratory symptoms
  • Discharge from the eyes or nose
