Cooperative Growing in Your Neighborhood

One of the best ways to ensure a sustainable future is to take charge of growing your own food, and with the help of others, it's also a great way to bring neighbors together. Cooperative Growing will teach neighbors how to combine their resources to extend their efforts beyond their own yards and create a neighborhood system connecting yards of food. Think of it as a pea patch next door. We intend to empower attendees to create and implement their own edible neighborhoods by

• Introducing everyone to the edible neighborhood/cooperative growing model.


• Discussing viable and recommended plants, with a focus on edible and medicinal trees, shrubs, herbs,veggies.


• Providing and discussing sample community agreements and asset checklists.


• Providing and discussing local resources that will help support gardeners seeking to build their own edible neighborhoods.


• Asking questions and getting answers.

When it's time to go home, you'll leave with an outline of what it takes to build an edible neighborhood with general associated costs for a frame of reference.

Children are welcome and there will be someone on site who they can play with, too!

Michael Seliga is the owner and operator of Cascadia Edible Landscapes, a full-service landscaping company located in Seattle that specializes in transforming underutilized spaces into centers of food production.
