Iris Growing Workshop at 21 Acres

 

Irises are ideal for Puget Sound gardens- with the right strategies, Irises can be garden stunners from spring through fall.

This class will provide students with a look at the wondrous variety in the genus iris. Faculty member, Patrick Spence, Owner of Cascadia Iris Gardens, will provide an overview of the many varieties of bearded and beardless iris and how to use them in your landscape to achieve year-around bloom. Patrick will also describe how to use iris for any type of landscape, arid to pond.

Come to the class and learn answers to questions such as:
Q. What types of soil do irises like best?
Q. If my soil is nutrient deficient, what is the best way to go about improving it?
Q. Is there an easy way to divide irises and move them on my own property?
Q. Is there anything to keep in mind when sharing varieties of iris with friends and neighbors?
Q. Will irises thrive without using pesticides or herbicides?
Q. Are there any new varieties of iris that are perfect for Northwest Gardens?

This is a one time class meeting Saturday morning, the Saturday before Father’s Day, at 21 Acres.

As the owner of Cascadia Iris Gardens, near Woodinville, Patrick Spence is recognized as an expert and a premier hybridizer of Japanese, Pacific Coast, Sino- Siberian, and Siberian iris. Patrick brings his extensive knowledge and experience to this class as well as the perspective of many other growers of the celebrated iris. Patrick is the past president of the King County Iris Society and has been a board member since 2005. He is vice president, Society for Japanese Iris, and a certified garden/show judge for the American Iris Society and has been a speaker at numerous flower and garden shows. Patrick’s expertise is extensive and he has recently held lectures on Japanese Iris, Aril and Arilbred Iris and Hybridizing Pacific Coast Iris.

This class will fill quickly. Register by June 1st to avoid disappointment.
