As part of the “Fresh Thinking” educational series, 21 Acres presents a moderated panel discussion, “Imaginary Food Systems: Bees, Flight and Agriculture,” Tuesday, November 12, 7 to 9 p.m. at the 21 Acres Center in Woodinville.
Join the engaging discussion with thought leaders on the art and science of bees, flight and agriculture, and the food system. In particular, the notion of sustainably transporting food presents a number of challenges to conventional ways of getting food from the field to the home. Honey bees already have an extremely efficient, even timeless, operation that has worked for millions of years. Does it translate to human systems of flight, cargo, architecture, communication, or imagination?
Panelists from diverse backgrounds including architect Catherine Calvert, publisher and slow food advocate Phillip Lee, and educator Dexter Chapin, will address these questions and discuss moving food from the farm to the eater in the most innovative ways. The panel discussion will be held at 21 Acres Center for Local Food and Sustainable Living, a living campus and the perfect setting for demonstrating sustainable practices regarding food and shelter. 21 Acres has collaborated with the Flight Path Project (beekeepers at Sea-Tac Airport) to bring you this “Fresh Thinking” panel along with event sponsors, Urban Bee Company, The Common Acre, and Sky River Mead.
