Jinyoung Lee Englund Concedes 45th District Senate Race

Democrat Manka Democrat was far ahead of Englund in ballot returns counted through Thursday.

WOODINVILLE, WA - Republican state Senate candidate Jinyoung Lee Englund conceded the 45th Legislative District race Friday, according to a statement from her campaign. She called Democrat Manka Dhingra to congratulate her on Friday morning.

"In life, it is impossible to win them all. But if you're going to fail, in the words of President Roosevelt, you might as well 'fail while daring greatly' and that is what we did," Englund said in a statement.

As of Thursday, Dhingra had won about 55 percent of the vote to Englund's 45 percent.

The 45th Legislative District race got national attention because the winner would determine party control over state government. With Dhingra's election, Democrats have a majority in every state Legislature and governor's seat along the West Coast.

State GOP Chair Susan Hutchison sent an email to supporters Thursday night conceding the 45th LD race. She said Democrats were bound to win that seat, anyway.

"No matter what you hear from the media, we have a very positive view of 2018. To sum it up, Tuesday was a status quo election. Democrats won in democrat districts, and Republicans held four special election seats in the State House and Senate," Hutchison wrote.
