Northshore School Board Member Will Resign To Run For Andy Hill's Senate Seat
School Board Director Ken Smith announced his resignation on Monday.

WOODINVILLE, WA - The director of the Northshore School Board will resign his seat to run for state Senate, according to the school district.
Ken Smith announced plans to resign on Monday; he will run for the Senate seat in the 45th Legislative District, which was held by Republican Andy Hill until his death on Oct. 31, 2016, of lung cancer. Smith submitted his resignation Monday because he has to file within the next two weeks to run for the Senate seat.
Republican Dino Rossi, a former gubernatorial candidate, was picked to serve in Hill's spot for the remainder of the term. Smith has been endorsed by Democratic groups in the past.

“Given the preparations the board will have to make to find my replacement, I felt it best to announce this now to give you as much time as possible.” Smith said in a statement. “I wish you all the best and have full confidence you will continue the excellence we have all come to expect from Northshore.”
The Northshore district will consider next steps for a replacement at an upcoming meeting.

“I thank Director Smith for his contributions to the Northshore School District and his unwavering support for our students, staff and families in this great community,” Superintendent Michelle Reid said in a statement. “I will continue to wish him the best in his upcoming journey."
Smith was first elected to the school board in November 2015. The 45h Legislative District includes parts of Woodinville, Kirkland, Sammamish, and Redmond.
