Northshore School District Honors Two Local Churches at WASA Community Recognition Luncheon

Northshore School District recognized Eastside Foursquare and Northshore Baptist churches at the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) Metro Community Recognition Awards Luncheon on May 17. The churches were honored at the luncheon for their strong partnerships with the school district. For over five years, Eastside Foursquare and Northshore Baptist churches have helped students overcome barriers and be successful in school. Each August they help coordinate the Back to School Fair which provides families with resource information from over 20 non-profit human service organizations as well as free children’s haircuts, ID cards, activities, food and entertainment. The churches are key organizers of CommunitySERVE Day. Last August over 670 volunteers donated 2,680 hours of service on grounds and classroom projects at 11 Northshore schools. Last winter the churches donated food and toys for the Christmas holiday to more than 80 financially struggling Northshore families. Importantly, Eastside Foursquare Church is a member of the Northshore Community Schools Advisory Board providing oversight for Community Schools, a partnership that provides supportive learning opportunities at three junior high schools for students to achieve their full potential and build a strong community. The church also provides mentors for junior high school students at Northshore Junior High School. Northshore Baptist Church partnered with the district and other community organizations to provide free vaccinations to Northshore students facing barriers to immunization. WASA is a professional, not-for-profit association of education administrators. It is committed to leadership in providing equity and excellence in student learning and developing competent, ethical and visionary leaders.
