Registration Begins for the Woodinville Girl Scouts Day Camp

Outdoor day camp in Carnation builds wilderness skills and self confidence for girls in grades 1-12.

For more than a dozen years, the Woodinville Girls Scouts of Western Washington have operated a day camp to teach young girls outdoor skills.

“Traditionally, outdoor camp is thought of just for boys,” said Laura Koch, program director, of the camp’s Girl Scout Leadership Experience. “One of the most exciting aspects of the camp is to see the girls get excited about learning to use a pocket knife or learn to build a fire. It’s great to see them empowered.”

The week-long camp begins each day at Tolt-McDonald Park in Carnation with traditional flag ceremony then the girls break into age-appropriate activities. In addition to fire building and knife safety, the girls learn about knots and tools, orienteering, outdoor cooking, nature, crafts, songs, games and wood working.
