Summer Blockbusters Coming to Woodinville
Looking for something to do when school ends next week? Advance tickets are now on sale for a number of summer movies, including "Cars 2," "Transformers" and "Harry Potter."
Would you pay $10.50 to see one of this summer’s hottest blockbusters? How about $13.50? That’s what it will cost you at Woodinville’s AMC Loews 12 during non-matinee showtimes — $13.50 if it’s in 3-D; $10.50 if not.
The summer movie season is in full swing for weeks, with J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi Steven Spielberg homage “Super 8” taking top spot at the box office last weekend with a $37 million gross.
This weekend, it’ll be challenged by “Green Lantern,” the DC Comics adaptation that tells the story of an Air Force test pilot (Ryan Reynolds) who harnesses otherworldly powers and becomes the first human in a cabal of intergalactic peacekeepers. Woodinville’s cinema complex will open the film Firday, June 17.

Later this month there'll be a pair of high-powered sequels hitting the Woodinville theater. First up is “Cars 2,” which follows up the 2006 Pixar hit about anthropomorphic vehicles. This entry has the gang heading overseas for a World Grand Prix race, with Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy lend their voices to the proceedings again. Advance tickets for the film’s June 24 opening in Woodinville are now on sale, with a Thursday midnight screening also available. The film will be presented on 3-D and 2-D screens.
Also coming in June is the third “Transformers” movie, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” which opens on June 29. The film features more battles between the Autobots and the Decepticons, and a conspiracy involving the 1969 NASA moon landing. Advance tickets are now on sale for the first several days of Woodinville screenings.

In July, a beloved franchise comes to a close with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” which opens on July 15. Harry, Ron and Hermione continue to look for the Horcruxes of Lord Voldemort in order to destroy him. Some advance tickets for Woodinville showings are already on sale, but Thursday midnight screening tickets are not available yet. The film will be presented in 3-D and 2-D.
Also coming this summer is another big superhero franchise entry in “Captain America: The First Avenger.” The film has not yet been announced as showing at the Woodinville AMC Loews.
