Woodinville Gymnasts Finish Strong in State 4A Individual Meet

The Woodinville Girl’s Gymnastics team came into the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall on Friday in unchartered territory after coming up short to eventual State Champion in the District meet. The reigning four-time defending 4A Champions had six individual qualifiers but no team trophy to compete for.

However, that would not stop the Falcon gymnasts from ending the season on a strong note buoyed by performances  in Floor exercise by Jaci Wolff who scored a 9.6, to finish sixth overall on  floor and Jenna Morrison scored a 9.475 as well in the event.

“It was the first time we’ve competed in the individual round in a while. Woodinville coach Kimberly Fleming said. “It was different feeling but we did really well.”

Sophomore Madison Engel turned in a 10^th place finish on the uneven bars competition with a score of 8.475 and she praised her teammates who were in the stands supporting her and her fellow individual competitors.

“It was really hard for us but the entire time we were competing as Woodinville not as individuals,” Engel said. “Also the support of our teammates really helped us.”

Next year, Woodinville will be in a situation where two teams will advance to state from the district meet out of the ultracompetitive KingCo Conference and Coach Fleming praised that change for 2012.

“I’m looking forward to having an extra spot for state next year.” Fleming said. “This season was also building for the future which should help us.”
