1. SOAR WV prepares for Save a Life Day (wowktv.com) — Charleston residents can pick up free Narcan and overdose-response training today at several Save a Life Day sites across the city, including CAMC hospitals, Kanawha Valley Collective, and West Side locations. SOAR WV organizers say the effort, which began in Kanawha and Putnam counties, aims to equip everyday people to recognize and reverse overdoses and reduce stigma.
2. 2027 MGC IREP - Notice of Filing and Hearing (journal-news.net) — Charleston residents who use Mountaineer Gas could see their monthly bills rise in early 2027, with a proposed residential increase of about $2.40, or 2.79 percent. A Public Service Commission hearing on the infrastructure plan and rate hike is set for November 6, 2026, at 201 Brooks Street in Charleston, and locals can submit written comments or petitions to intervene.
3. West Virginia tourism department announces 2026 Almost Heaven award winners (wvnews.com) — Charleston's Coliseum & Convention Center just hosted the Governor's Conference on Tourism, where the state honored 2026 Almost Heaven Achievement Award winners from across West Virginia. While recipients ranged from Mon Forest Towns to Snowshoe and River Riders, Charleston benefited by drawing tourism leaders, marketing attention, and statewide networking into the city for the evening.
4. West Virginia Department of Education honors adult education programs, students (wvnews.com) — Charleston hosted the 30th annual West Virginia Adult Education Conference, where the state honored standout adult learners, educators, and county programs from across West Virginia. Kanawha County's ESOL program and a Kanawha County student were among those recognized, underscoring Charleston's role as a hub for statewide education efforts and celebrations of lifelong learning.
