Experienced Cardiologists join WVU Heart and Vascular Institute at Thomas Hospitals (wvnstv.com) — Residents in the Charleston and South Charleston area now have expanded access to heart care as two longtime local cardiologists have officially joined the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute at Thomas Hospitals. Their move strengthens an already highly rated cardiac program at Thomas Memorial, keeping advanced cardiovascular services and trusted physicians close to home for Kanawha Valley patients.
2. Humanities Council releases fall issue of People & Mountains (wvnews.com) — Charleston residents can attend Pulitzer Prize–winner Rick Atkinson's free McCreight Lecture at the Capitol Theater on October 15, highlighted in the new fall issue of People & Mountains. The magazine also explores traditional weaving tools, a noted conservationist writer, and recent honors for folklorist Gerry Milnes, all showcasing humanities work that reaches communities across West Virginia.
3. West Virginia Tourism Shifts Focus to Repeat Visitors as State Reports $9.4B Impact (moderncampground.com) — West Virginia's tourism leaders just met in Charleston to outline a new push for repeat visitors, expanded outdoor lodging, and more support for local tourism businesses. While the strategy is statewide, officials stressed that Charleston won't be the only focus, emphasizing that smaller communities should share in the $9.4 billion visitor economy.
4. Governor Morrisey Announces 'West Virginia's Dolly Days Read-a-Thon' (wvnews.com) — A new statewide Dolly Days Read-a-Thon is being launched from Charleston, inviting K–5 students to read 25 books between October and December for prizes like Blenko Glass suncatchers and bookends. Local families can sign up through their public libraries, download reading logs, and see children's artwork displayed at the Culture Center's State Library next winter.
