1. Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association eyeing new $20 million animal shelter (wchsnetwork.com) — A new $20 million Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association shelter is planned on 17 acres off Route 214, out of the flood zone and near Capital High School. Leaders hope to raise $15 million locally and through donors, then fill the remaining gap with grants and government support, creating a larger, more resilient facility for animals and staff.
2. West Virginia Parkways Authority making progress on new headquarters (wvmetronews.com) — Work has started to transform the former Charleston Moose Lodge into the West Virginia Parkways Authority's new headquarters, with interior demolition now underway. Officials aim to finish design work by early spring and move in by early 2028, consolidating scattered customer service offices and replacing the current, less accessible Piedmont Road facility in Charleston.
3. Early fall colors emerge along Charleston's Sunrise Carriage Trail (wchstv.com) — Charleston families are already spotting early fall color along the Sunrise Carriage Trail, where FestivALL has added live music, art, and kid-friendly activities. Organizers say the trail's mix of hardwoods makes it a great place to watch the leaves change, with peak color in Charleston still about two weeks away.
4. Advantage Valley celebrates National Manufacturing Day (wvnews.com) — A new $2 million federal grant will help expand Advantage Valley's support for manufacturers across the Charleston–Huntington region, including Charleston-based Industrial Bolting Technologies. Over the next three years, the program aims to assist 225 businesses, create and retain hundreds of jobs, and strengthen local supply chains, with significant matching support from the Charleston Area Alliance and other regional partners.
