1. West Virginia State Museum Now Reopen (wvpress.org) — Charleston locals can once again visit the West Virginia State Museum at the Culture Center on the State Capitol Complex, now reopened after essential repairs. With free admission Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., residents are invited to explore the immersive Discovery Path and take advantage of guided tours and educational resources right in the heart of the city.
2. $26 million Capital Connector Project advances to construction bidding phase (wvmetronews.com) — Charleston's $26 million Capital Connector Project is moving into the construction bidding phase, paving the way for safer, better-lit walkways and redesigned traffic along Kanawha Boulevard and Greenbrier Street. City leaders say the upgrades will improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers from Magic Island to the 35th Street Bridge and around the Capitol area.
3. Governor Morrisey comments on additional federal disaster assistance for West Virginia (wvnstv.com) — Kanawha County residents affected by August's severe storms and flooding can now apply for FEMA Individual Assistance, covering temporary housing, repairs, and some uninsured losses. Governor Patrick Morrisey, speaking from Charleston, also highlighted new public assistance for multiple counties and vowed to keep seeking help for Boone and Logan, where aid was denied.
4. Charleston Ballet expands The Legend of Mothman run (wvnstv.com) — Charleston residents have another chance to see The Legend of Mothman, with the Charleston Ballet adding a Saturday, October 24, 2 p.m. matinee at the West Virginia Culture Center Theater on the Capitol Complex. The Friday premiere is sold out and Saturday evening tickets are nearly gone, so locals are urged to reserve seats soon through the ballet's website or by phone.
5. American Horticultural Society announces grant recipients (ope-plus.com) — A new sensory garden is coming to Camp Virgil Tate in Charleston, thanks to an $8,000 grant from the American Horticultural Society. The project will support accessible community programs, 4-H camps, and plant identification workshops, giving local families and youth more hands-on ways to connect with nature close to home.
