1. Monongahela National Forest, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources renew decades-long conservation partnershi (lootpress.com) — From their Elkins headquarters, Monongahela National Forest leaders and state wildlife officials have renewed a decades-long conservation partnership that guides how local forests, streams, and wildlife are managed. The updated agreement modernizes a 1980s-era framework, shaping habitat restoration, endangered species work, and fisheries management that directly affect outdoor recreation and natural resources around Elkins and across West Virginia.
2. Elkins holds cross country relay event at 4-H (theintermountain.com) — Elkins cross country runners just hosted their only home meet of the season at 4-H Camp Pioneer, finishing second in a unique coed relay inspired by Mountain State Forest Festival traditions. Local middle school athletes also competed, with Elkins Middle School placing seventh. The Tigers now look ahead to upcoming invitationals in Tucker County and beyond.
3. Maid Silvia Strolls Downtown (theintermountain.com) — Downtown Elkins just hosted the Mountain State Forest Festival Children's Parade, filling Davis Avenue with kids dressed as woodland creatures and giving spectators an early glimpse of Maid Silvia. Families then enjoyed free Children's Fest activities, food, and local vendor booths. A full schedule of festival events continues today and tomorrow at venues across Elkins, from the Senior Center to Davis & Elkins College.
4. Dark Hollow: West Virginia Horror Film Explores Appalachian Industrial History (news-usa.today) — A horror filmmaker who grew up in Elkins has turned West Virginia's industrial past into the backdrop for his new movie, Dark Hollow. Drawing on memories of coal country and statewide mining history, he connects resource extraction to today's data center debates. The film is now touring West Virginia, inviting audiences to confront that legacy through a monster story.
