1. Downtown PKB selling banners to honor local veterans (wtap.com) — Parkersburg residents can now buy $60 banners through Downtown PKB to honor local veterans, which will hang along Market Street from the courthouse to the 900 block through October and November. The cost just covers materials, and families get to keep the banner after it comes down. Orders can be placed online or by emailing the organization directly.
2. Blennerhassett Hotel changes hands under new ownership (wtap.com) — Parkersburg's historic Blennerhassett Hotel and Spa has been sold to Taylor Hospitality, which plans to fold it into its Giovanni historic luxury brand while keeping all current employees. New ownership says it will focus on behind-the-scenes upgrades and maintaining the hotel as a key gathering place for the Parkersburg community.
3. Oliverio named to WVU Parkersburg post (newsandsentinel.com) — West Virginia University at Parkersburg has named veteran educator Paula Oliverio as its new director of teacher education, bringing more than 40 years of classroom and leadership experience. She'll oversee teacher preparation programs, accreditation work, and partnerships with local schools to better train future educators who may teach Parkersburg-area students.
4. Four receive inaugural RTA Adventure Grants (newsandsentinel.com) — A new Rivers, Trails & Ales Adventure Grant is helping four Mid-Ohio Valley residents fund outdoor projects, including one plan to explore trails in and around Parkersburg. From postpartum trail running and accessible camping to plein-air painting and whitewater rafting, the micro-grants aim to reduce barriers so more locals can enjoy regional outdoor recreation.
