AFL-CIO Appalachian Council Head Start Program taking applications (newsandsentinel.com) — Families in Parkersburg and across Wood County can now apply for the AFL-CIO Appalachian Council Head Start Program, which offers free preschool services for qualifying 3- to 5-year-olds. The program provides transportation, meals, health screenings, and classroom support, including a new consolidated Cedar Grove facility and collaborative classrooms with the Wood County Board of Education.
   

2. Contractors faces daily fines for delay in W.Va - Ohio bridge construction project (wchstv.com) — Drivers traveling to and from Parkersburg face continued disruption as West Virginia Route 68 at the Wood-Jackson county line remains closed until at least Sept. 12 for delayed bridge deck work. The contractor now faces daily fines, and local motorists are being routed onto Interstate 77 or alternate paths through Ohio while the William S. Ritchie Jr. Bridge project is finished.
   

3. Parkersburg South sweeps Marietta at home (wtap.com) — Parkersburg South's volleyball team gave local fans plenty to cheer about, sweeping Marietta in two tightly contested sets on their home court in Parkersburg. Key plays from Quinn Bolyard, Jess Price, and Ella Collins helped the Lady Patriots rally from deficits and close out both sets, 25-16 and 27-25.
   

4. West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival Senior Court Princesses (wvnews.com) — Parkersburg is represented in this year's West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival Senior Court through princess Gia Rosalee Corsini, whose family ties span Parkersburg, Clarksburg, and Italy. The court's biographies highlight local students' Italian roots, church involvement, school leadership, and love for the Clarksburg festival's food, music, and dancing traditions.
