• Cookbook submissions open for annual cookbook contest (newsandsentinel.com) — Parkersburg home cooks are invited to enter the News and Sentinel and Marietta Times "Fall Foodies" holiday cookbook contest, with recipes due by Oct. 2. Finalists will present dishes at an Oct. 21 tasting party at Artsbridge on Seventh Street, and winners will be featured in the Nov. 18 holiday cookbook.
• South loses 76-50 shootout to University (newsandsentinel.com) — Parkersburg South fans saw an explosive but tough homecoming as the Patriots fell 76-50 to University at Erickson All-Sports Facility, despite big plays from Logan Graham and Kooper Jackson. The game set a new points-allowed record for South, and coaches stressed resilience while looking ahead to next week's trip to Woodrow Wilson.
