Today's riddle: What happened to the pregnant cat that ate yarn? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Tourist bureau chief retiring, interim named (mariettatimes.com) — Parkersburg's tourism scene is shifting as longtime Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau president Mark Lewis retires Nov. 1, with Autumn Henthorn stepping in as interim leader. Lewis, a Parkersburg High graduate, helped create the Ann Street Welcome Center and expand regional tourism partnerships, while Henthorn plans to grow visitation and outdoor recreation opportunities.
2. Wood County assessor's office says other WV counties also affected by tax record error (wtap.com) — Parkersburg-area homeowners should know that a paperwork problem at the state level has delayed property tax bills for about 107 Wood County properties, and similar issues are surfacing in other counties. The assessor's office is reviewing records to ensure everyone is accounted for, but says no further action can happen until next year and stresses taxpayers are not at fault.
3. A Puppy Was Born Deaf. Then, Two Hearing Specialists Took Her In and Changed Her Life (Exclusive) (people.com) — Two Parkersburg audiologists, Michael and Carlee Squires, are using the same skills they bring to their Audiology Services of West Virginia clinic to help their deaf puppy, Pips, thrive through visual commands and patient training. Their experience on nearly 80 local acres shows how disabled pets can adapt with thoughtful support. They hope more families here will consider adopting special-needs animals.
4. Obituary: DeBerry, Deloris (wtap.com) — Parkersburg residents are mourning the passing of 85-year-old Deloris DeBerry, who died Sept. 6 at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center. A devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Vienna and an avid bowler, she leaves behind a large, close-knit family. Visitation and services will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, in Elizabeth, West Virginia.
