2. Parkersburg City Council passes recycling amendment (newsandsentinel.com) — Parkersburg residents will now see a mandatory $3 monthly recycling charge on their bills after City Council revised the program to comply with a court ruling. Council also advanced major local projects, including financing a $25.7 million water filtration system to remove forever chemicals and steps tied to WVU Medicine Camden Clark's planned $150 million hospital expansion.
3. Parkersburg, West Virginia food truck ordinance back to planning commission following debate (foodtruckoperator.com) — Parkersburg's proposed food truck ordinance has been sent back to the Municipal Planning Commission after operators and residents raised concerns about strict hours and distance rules from existing restaurants. Local business owners, including a council member and a food truck operator, argued the limits and generator requirements could hurt small vendors, prompting more review before any final decision.
4. Vienna receives $1 million in federal funding for Spencer's Landing redevelopment (wtap.com) — From a Parkersburg-area announcement, Vienna has secured $1 million in federal community project funding to help clean up and redevelop the former Johns Manville industrial site at Spencer's Landing. The money, managed through Wood County Economic Development, will fund environmental review and demolition work so the riverfront area can become usable park and recreation space. Bidding and construction could begin within about a year.
5. WVU Parkersburg invited to return to nationally recognized Metallica Scholars Initiative (wvnews.com) — WVU Parkersburg has again been selected for Metallica's national Metallica Scholars Initiative, bringing scholarship and certification funding to local technology and media students in Parkersburg. The grant-backed program helps residents gain in-demand skills for well-paying careers, from IT and digital media to trades, strengthening the local workforce and opening doors for nontraditional students.
