2. DEP OKs Peoples Cartage fire site plan that warns of vast contamination potential (wvpress.org) — Residents around Parkersburg face lingering questions after a massive July warehouse fire along Camden Avenue, as a new DEP-approved site plan warns of potentially vast environmental contamination. The assessment focuses on ash, runoff, and possible pollutants moving through soils and stormwater toward the Little Kanawha River, while also noting Parkersburg's public water system and outlining phased sampling and monitoring work still to come.
3. Three recognized for service to Parkersburg Boys & Girls Club (newsandsentinel.com) — Leaders from the Boys & Girls Club of Parkersburg are being recognized statewide, spotlighting the strength of youth programs serving local families. CEO Darlene Murphy earned CEO of the Year, Vienna site director Crystal Barker was named Staff Member of the Year, and longtime board treasurer Wes Tracewell entered the state Hall of Fame for his financial stewardship.
4. Wood County nets nearly $13K from firearms auction (newsandsentinel.com) — Law enforcement agencies in and around Parkersburg just received new funding from a statewide auction of unclaimed firearms, with the Parkersburg Police Department getting more than $5,700. Wood County's sheriff's office brought in nearly $13,000, part of over $127,000 raised to support police resources across West Virginia.
