Wood County Economic Development to hold annual meeting Oct. 14 (newsandsentinel.com) — Local economic leaders in Parkersburg are inviting the public to a joint annual meeting of the Wood County Development Authority and Parkersburg-Wood County Area Development Corporation on Oct. 14 at Discovery World on Market. Attendees will hear from West Virginia's deputy secretary for economic development and workforce participation, Christine Davies, and can RSVP through Wood County Economic Development if they're not already members.
2. State Police probe death after shooting by Parkersburg officers (newsandsentinel.com) — State Police are investigating after two Parkersburg officers fatally shot a man Wednesday night when he allegedly pointed a long gun at them on 11th Avenue. The man died at the scene, the officers are on administrative duty, and authorities say more information will be released once the ongoing investigation allows.
3. Mountwood Bird Club turns fall migration into community, conservation (wtap.com) — A long-running Parkersburg-area birding club is inviting locals to join weekly outings and help track fall migration across the Mid-Ohio Valley. Members contribute sightings to national science databases, organize Parkersburg bird counts, and promote birding as a relaxing, screen-free way to explore local woods and wildlife. Beginners are welcome, with apps and experienced members ready to help.
4. Sweet senior night win for PHS girls soccer (newsandsentinel.com) — Parkersburg soccer fans saw a big night as the Parkersburg High School girls team celebrated Senior Night at Stadium Field with a 10-0 win over Morgantown. Six seniors were honored, multiple players scored and assisted, and the Big Reds extended their winning streak to four as they prepare for Saturday's match at Woodrow Wilson.
5. 6th annual Manufacturing In Action connects 400+ students with Valley employers (wtap.com) — A Parkersburg South High School senior joined more than 400 area students in Marietta for the Manufacturing In Action event, exploring hands-on career paths in industrial maintenance, plants and HVAC work. Local employers and training programs highlighted good-paying jobs that can keep Mid-Ohio Valley students, including those from Parkersburg, working close to home instead of leaving the region.
