Officers say the two women knew each other and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact a Parkersburg detective.
2. Witches Ball to mark 30 years of Haunted Parkersburg (newsandsentinel.com) — Parkersburg residents can celebrate 30 years of Haunted Parkersburg with a Witches Ball on Oct. 29 at the Parkersburg Art Center, raising money for a memorial to founder Susan Sheppard. The evening features live music, vendors, tarot readings, illusions, refreshments, and sales of Sheppard's books, with proceeds supporting a planned bronze bust at the Art Park downtown.
3. Criss Elementary's Fall Fun Day carries extra meaning in school's final year (wtap.com) — Criss Elementary students in Parkersburg just enjoyed their Fall Fun Day, a community-supported event with stations like a petting zoo that many kids say is their favorite part of school. With the school set to close at the end of this academic year, staff are working to make these final months especially memorable. The principal hopes students will remember Criss as a special place long after it's gone.
4. Reedy man continues to look for proof he has Tad Lincoln's chest of drawers (newsandsentinel.com) — A collector's long-running quest to prove his chest of drawers once belonged to Abraham Lincoln's son has a Parkersburg connection through a sideboard tied to former governor Arthur I. Boreman. The piece's possible Lincoln family history has led him from West Virginia auctions to Vermont and Ohio. He's still seeking any small clue that might finally confirm its provenance.
5. Keith Eugene Yoak Obituary (ridgeviewnews.com) — Family and friends are mourning Keith Eugene Yoak, who was born in Parkersburg and passed away Sunday at age 52. Loved for his big heart and passion for hunting and fishing, he leaves behind parents, a brother, extended family, and his longtime girlfriend's family. Funeral services are set for Sunday afternoon in Arnoldsburg, with burial to follow in Big Bend.
