19-Year-Old Sailor Killed In WI; Was Stationed At Great Lakes
The sailor approached a man who had scared a woman he knew, and after the men exchanged words, the suspect shot him and fled, police said.
WEST ALLIS, WI — A 19-year-old sailor who was stationed in Illinois was fatally shot in Wisconsin over the weekend, according to police and media reports.
Phoenix O. Castanon died at the scene, near South 84th and West Becher streets in West Allis, after he was shot about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Castanon was in the area with some women he knew, one of whom was approached by a strange man in a vehicle while walking on 84th Street, according to police, who said the man started talking to the woman and scared her, at which time she ran to Castanon’s vehicle. Castonan approached the man, and after the two exchanged words, the suspect shot Castanon and fled, police said.

Originally from Arizona, Castanon was in training at the Great Lakes Naval Station, according to TMJ4, which reported Castanon was off for the weekend and had visited his girlfriend in Milwaukee.
