23 Milwaukee Students Given New Computers & Scholarship Opportunities
Twenty-three Milwaukee students will be the recipients scholarship opportunities as part of the inaugural Berrada Scholarship Program
MILWAUKEE – Twenty-three Milwaukee students will be the recipients of new computers and scholarship opportunities as part of the inaugural Berrada Scholars program. The program, eligible to the more than 9,000 tenant families served by Berrada Properties, is awarding students who maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or above and a 90 percent attendance record during the 2022-2023 school year. Scholarships and computers will be awarded at 10 a.m. on July 4 at the Berrada Properties Payment Center, 9049 N 76th St. in Milwaukee.
A drawing will be held Tuesday for all applicants – 23 in total – to determine two winners of a $5,000 Edvest savings account and 10 winners of a $1,000 Edvest savings account. A total of $20,000 in scholarships will be awarded. All applicants will receive new computers.
“The power of education has never been more important and we want to celebrate the students who are putting in the work to achieve excellence,” said Archie Blunt, Director of Community Engagement at Berrada Properties. “Our tenants are among the city’s most vulnerable residents and it is important to Berrada Properties that we help build a successful community right within the home.”
Berrada Properties tenants received notice in early May to submit applications for the Berrada Scholars program. All qualified applicants have been invited to attend the drawing on July 4. Blunt, who began his role at Berrada Properties in late June, said the scholars program is one way he is advancing existing and new tenant enrichment opportunities and strengthening the relationships within the City of Milwaukee and beyond.

“It is our mission to work with tenants to be good neighbors and renters while providing access to affordable, quality housing,” Blunt said. “Part of strengthening the relationship between tenants and landlords is education, both as residents of Berrada Properties and as students in school.”
Berrada Properties manages more than 10,000 housing units in Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin, and has a long track record of transforming blighted properties into clean, accessible and affordable housing opportunities. A new Tenant Learning Center that Berrada Properties is constructing on the city’s northwest side is scheduled to be open by fall, part of a larger overall effort to continue to address the central-city housing challenges that impact the City of Milwaukee. The facility will also have space for tenant education and assistance services.
