9 Die From Cold This Week In State; Wind Chill Warning Issued

Authorities say 9 Wisconsin residents have died from the bitterly cold weather over the last week. A wind chill warning has been issued.

Authorities across Wisconsin are saying that bitterly cold weather has lead to the deaths of nine Wisconsin residents over the last week. The deaths have been both men and women, young and old. Experts say the cold wind chills seen over the last week are causing frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.

A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for Friday night, starting at 9 pm. This advisory is for all but the westernmost forecast area counties where winds will be lighter. According to the National Weather Service, people can expect wind chills to range from 15 below zero to 25 below zero until Saturday morning, when freezing rain and drizzle is expected.

Tim Halbach, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the NWS out of Sullivan, Wis. said a deadly winter storm out east is causing bitterly cold weather to stay in Wisconsin longer.

"The impact that we will feel from [the storm] is the cold air for the next few days. The system is going to help slow down the overall pattern and help to bring colder air down from southern Canada into the Great Lakes region, " Halbach told Patch.
