12 Tornadoes Hit Wisconsin During Friday's Thunderstorms: NWS

Wisconsin was hit by several weak and a couple of moderately powered tornadoes on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

WISCONSIN — Twelve tornadoes passed through Wisconsin when a line of severe thunderstorms swept across much of the state on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Damage surveys were conducted from Saturday until Monday revealing the paths and damage of the 12 tornadoes. Seven of the tornadoes were considered EF-0, or "weak," while five were rated as EF-1, or "moderate."

Weak tornadoes have winds between 60-85 mph while moderate tornadoes can have winds up to 110 mph. For all 12 recorded tornadoes, nobody was injured or killed, according to the NWS.

The damage on Friday ranged across the state. Here's what the NWS knows about the tornadoes:

  • Tornado No. 1, an EF-0, hit Walworth County and traveled from Sharon to Delavan lake for just over 11 miles around 8 p.m. The tornado may have started in Illinois but it passed through rural areas and damaged the roofing on a few barns.
  • Tornado No. 2, an EF-0, also hit Walworth County and traveled north from the Geneva National Golf Club up to Elkhorn for about 6.1 miles around 8:10 p.m. The most substantial damage was to a storage facility that saw roofing material lofted about a mile north.
  • Tornado No. 3, an EF-0, traveled for about 3.8 miles around the Beloit area around 7:45 p.m. The tornado started in the Merrill Park area and uprooted numerous trees.
  • Tornado No. 4, an EF-0, traveled near Whitewater around 8 p.m. for about 4.8 miles with a max damage width of 50 yards. The NWS noted lots of trees were snapped and topped.
  • Tornado No. 5, an EF-0, snapped and uprooted several trees while lasting for about 2.9 miles near Juda in Green County around 7-7:15 p.m.
  • Tornado No. 6, which was ranked as an EF-1 with 100 mph winds, traveled for nearly 10 miles with a damage width of 350 yards around 7-7:30 p.m. Four power poles were snapped while many outbuildings had roof damage.
  • Tornado No. 7 was ranked as an EF-0. It traveled from Green to Rock Counties, north of Brodhead, around 7:23 p.m. for about 5.7 miles. Lots of trees were snapped and some were uprooted.
  • Tornado No. 8 was ranked as an EF-1 with 100 mph winds. It lasted for about 4.2 miles in Dane County east of Stoughton around 7:45 p.m. and snapped two power poles.
  • Tornado No. 9 was ranked as an EF-0. It hit Jefferson County around 8 p.m. and lasted for around 1.4 miles as it snapped and uprooted some trees and destroyed a shed.
