Authorities said a trooper called for backup because the driver had a felony warrant through Kenosha County. As a sheriff’s deputy and another trooper arrived, the driver took off from the traffic stop, according to the sheriff’s office.

The chase eventually returned to northbound I-41. As the vehicle approached the Winnebago Street off-ramp, the driver went into a ditch, traveled up an embankment and launched over traffic on Winnebago Street before landing in a field, authorities said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

The driver was identified as Dewayne Stokes, 44, of Milwaukee, FOX6 reported, citing the sheriff’s office and Wisconsin Circuit Court records.

Stokes ran from the vehicle after the crash but was tased and taken into custody, according to the report. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries before being booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail.

FOX6 reported that the pursuit covered about 4.5 miles, and that Stokes was out on bond in Kenosha County for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent when the chase happened.
