Body Pulled From WI Lake Weeks After Canoe Capsized

Winds were high and conditions were dangerous when a couple decided to go canoeing last month and the vessel overturned, officials said.

FOX LAKE, WI — A body believed to be a man who died after a canoe capsized last month was pulled Thursday from a Wisconsin lake.

The body was found about 8 p.m. in Fox Lake and although authorities are withholding the man’s name pending final identification, he is presumed to be Beau Krantz, a 36-year-old Fox Lake resident who had been canoeing with his girlfriend before he disappeared, according to Madison.com.

Police received a 911 call shortly after noon April 21, with the caller reporting that a canoe had capsized and two people were yelling for help in the water, according to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office. Winds were high and conditions were dangerous, the sheriff’s office said.

A 34-year-old Fox Lake woman was rescued, but first responders couldn’t find the man, according to the sheriff’s office. The lake had no visibility, and weather in the following days made searching unsafe for divers, the sheriff’s office said. However, officials conducted daily surface and sonar searches, according to the sheriff’s office.

“This is certainly a very emotional and difficult incident for all involved and we are thankful for all who assisted in this lengthy search,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
