Here Are WI's Top 10 Safest Cities, Study Says

Overall, the state had a strong showing with its low rates in both violent crime and property crime.

A new study examines the safest cities in every state in the country. The rankings from Safewise "are intended to highlight cities with low per capita crime and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer."

In Wisconsin, the analysis found that the safest community is Hobart-Lawrence in Brown County.

"Everyone wants to feel safe at home," Safewise wrote. "Whether you're checking in on your current city or scouting out a new one, we've crunched the numbers on crime rates across the country."

Overall, Wisconsin fared well in the study. The violent crime rate in the Badger State is 4.00 incidents per 1,000 people, which is lower than the national average of 4.43.

While property crime has increase across Wisconsin in recent years, rising from 14.4 incidents per 1,000 people in 2024 to 16.34 incidents in this year's report, it's still lower than the national property crime rate of 22.89. Additionally, it's the sixth lowest property crime rate in the country.

The number one way Wisconsinites protect their property is with security cameras at 36 percent followed by guard dog at 24 percent.

According to the study, roughly 52 percent of Wisconsinites say they feel safe in the state, down from 54 percent the year prior.
