If Wisconsinites Want Legal Pot, Democrat Matt Flynn Does Too

Should it pass a non-binding referendum, Flynn, if elected governor, would pressure the Legislature to follow through, he said.

MADISON, WI — If Wisconsinite vote to make marijuana legal, Democratic gubernatorial candidate for Matt Flynn is all for it. Flynn on Tuesday urged the GOP-controlled Legislature to put a non-binding referendum on next year's ballot asking if there's support for the legalization and sale of pot.

Should it pass, Flynn — if he becomes governor — would pressure the Legislature to follow through, he said.

There have been small signs of movement in the current Legislature among supporters of legalizing marijuana. A bipartisan bill introduced this year would have eased penalties for possessing small amounts of marijuana.

And Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has said he was open to legalizing medical marijuana, but a Democratic bill to do that has languished.
