Planned Parenthood Will Resume Abortion Services In Wisconsin

MADISON, WI — Planned Parenthood will start providing abortions again in Wisconsin on Monday, the organization announced.
Abortion services were shuttered statewide after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year. As a result, an 1849 Wisconsin law — widely interpreted as a near-total abortion ban — went into effect.
But a Dane County judge in July ruled that the 1849 law is not enforceable for voluntary abortions.

On Thursday, after consulting with legal experts, Planned Parenthood said it now feels confident it has legal protection to restart its abortion services.
"Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, in consultation with attorneys, physicians, partners, and other stakeholders, has made the decision to restore this necessary reproductive health care," the organization said in a statement.
