Trump Is Wrong, 'No Question' Russia Interfered: Speaker Ryan

Speaker Ryan joined several high-ranking GOP lawmakers in breaking with President Trump, saying he is wrong to side with Russia.

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin publicly criticized President Donald Trump's position at the U.S.-Russia summit in Helsinki Monday. Trump "must appreciate that Russia is not our ally," Speaker Ryan said in a statement.

There's "no question" that Russia interfered with the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Ryan said in a statement. "Russia remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals," the speaker said.

Speaker Ryan is far from the only Republican lawmaker to openly criticize President Trump over the summit. Rep. Will Hurd from Texas said "I never would have thought that the US President would become one of the ones getting played by old KGB hands."

"This was a very good day for President Putin," said Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, who has openly criticized Trump in the past.

Trump's performance in the summit has also been called disgraceful, shameful, bizarre, treasonous, toadying and tragic by lawmakers and foreign policy experts.

Former CIA Director John Brennan blatantly accused the president of treason, saying "Donald Trump's press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of 'high crimes & misdemeanors.' It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump's comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Republican Patriots: Where are you???"

The two had "direct, open and deeply productive dialogue," Al-Jazeera reported, about "everything from trade to military to missiles to China."
