1. Sudden closure of community pool fuels conflict in Antigo over school spending (wpr.org) — Antigo residents are locked in a tense fight to keep the Clara R. McKenna Aquatic Center open after the Antigo Unified School District abruptly closed it over alleged funding and legality issues, then reopened it under pressure. Locals question inconsistent budget numbers, lack of records, and the board's decision to advance a $5 million football stadium. A key Oct. 5 subcommittee meeting will revisit pool funding and its future.
2. Will the Wisconsin seat flip? Antigo residents fight to keep pool (wpr.org) — Antigo residents are pushing back after the Antigo School Board briefly closed the community pool for cost reasons, then soon after approved $5 million for a new football field. Langlade County Weekly Blotter: Ticket Scams, Highway Collisions, and Trail-Cam Trespassers (antigotimes.com) — Police and deputies in Antigo and across Langlade County handled a packed week of calls, from ticket scams and online fraud to highway crashes, domestic disputes, and repeated ATV trespassing caught on trail cameras. The blotter also highlights school crossing details, homecoming events, animal complaints, and several OWI and warrant arrests that may affect traffic and neighborhood safety where you live.
4. Antigo Walk to End Alzheimer's Inspires Hope and Raises Critical Funds, Uniting the Community in the Fight Against Alzheimer's (antigotimes.com) — Antigo residents just wrapped up a powerful Walk to End Alzheimer's that's expected to bring in more than $30,000 to support Langlade County families with education, care, and a 24/7 helpline. Organizers say thousands turned out in purple, and donations can still be made through December to keep services and advocacy strong for neighbors living with dementia.
5. Antigo potato farmers celebrate successful harvest season (wjfw.com) — A longtime Antigo family farm is enjoying one of its best potato harvests in years, thanks to cooperative weather and careful irrigation after a dry summer. Igl Farms reports strong yields and smooth digging so far, and urges shoppers to check labels and support locally grown Wisconsin potatoes when they head to the grocery store.
