• Lamers prepares for school year, despite loss of 50 buses to tornado (postcrescent.com) — Families in Appleton can expect Lamers to have school buses running this fall, even after a July 27 tornado destroyed the company's Menasha terminal and totaled about 50 buses that serve Appleton and nearby districts. Damaged and replacement buses, plus temporary offices and repairs handled from Freedom, are helping the company restore full service while it rebuilds in Menasha.
• Appleton Police warn of vehicle thefts after summer increase (wearegreenbay.com) — Appleton Police are urging residents, especially on the city's north side, to lock vehicles and garages after a sharp summer rise in thefts and rummaging incidents. Officers say most crimes involve unlocked cars, and they recommend removing valuables, using good lighting, and checking home cameras to help deter and report suspicious activity.
• Wisconsin's Police Camera Network Unravels as Cities Exit Flock Safety (webpronews.com) — Appleton is joining a growing list of Wisconsin communities pulling out of Flock Safety's license plate reader network, citing privacy worries and shrinking benefits as neighboring cities exit. The move comes amid statewide backlash, local activism, and examples of data misuse, leaving Appleton officials weighing alternative vendors or scaled‑back surveillance as they rethink how these cameras fit community expectations.
