Today's riddle: When geese fly, one side is longer than the other. do you know why that is ? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Two new playgrounds unveiled at Fox Valley elementary schools (wearegreenbay.com) — Families at Edison Elementary in Appleton just got to celebrate a brand-new, accessibility-focused playground funded by a $156,000 anonymous donation to the Appleton Education Foundation. The school's old equipment was deteriorating, so this upgrade brings safer, more inclusive play options for students. A separate Oshkosh elementary also unveiled a new playground and classroom wing.
2. Tesla floats in flooded streets (cnn.com) — One of the featured weather clips shows an EF2 tornado striking the Appleton area, toppling trees and power lines and damaging homes in Appleton, Menasha and Neenah. It's part of a larger CNN collection of extreme weather videos, but this segment highlights just how intense the recent storm was locally. Residents can see the brief footage of the tornado's impact.
3. Today in history, September 30 (usatoday.com) — Appleton's own Vulcan Street Plant gets top billing today as the first commercial hydroelectric power plant in North America, which began operating here in 1882. A broader "today in history" timeline then walks through major national and world events, from women's suffrage and Hoover Dam to James Dean and Boeing's 747.
4. A new 7 Brew, an incoming Raising Cane's and more (postcrescent.com) — Fox Cities residents have several new spots to check out, from 7 Brew's third drive-thru coffee stand in Neenah to an upcoming Raising Cane's in Grand Chute and a new Lux Layers 3D print shop location. A popular brunch place, Apple Valley Pancake House, also opened a third site in Fox Crossing. Appleton Post-Crescent reporter Faith Huey invites tips and reader food recommendations.
