As we've welcomed more students into our buildings for the second semester, we've updated the current Learning Model Re-Evaluation Matrix. This matrix is updated each Wednesday afternoon.

We're adding language to the top of the Matrix that comes directly from the addendum to the Framework for a Safe and Resilient Return, which was adopted in August.

Primary Indicators

We are including additional data points in the Primary Indicators section of the matrix. Previously, in-depth data supporting the matrix was available each week in a second document on our Learning Model Re-Evaluation page. To prevent famililes and community from having to access two documents, we have added the actual numbers that could move the risk to a lower level to the matrix.

  • AASD's primary indicators (burden in the City of Appleton and the Tri-County area) and the ability to implement five key mitigation strategies have not changed.
  • Risk levels will continue to reflect both the CDC and the DHS guidelines.

Trend Data
The last column on the updated matrix is the 3-week trend. That includes this week’s burden plus the last two week’s burden. The burden is designated as "Increasing" when the change is greater than a positive 10%. It is designated as "Decreasing" when the change is more than a negative 10%. It is designated as "No Change" if the burden is between plus or minus 10%.

Secondary Indicators
In the Secondary Indicators section of the matrix we have not changed the first indicator, our substitute staffing level. Now that we have increased our in-person learning, we have added two new indicators, the total number of new positive cases for students and staff in the previous week and the weekly total number of new quarantines.
