People in the area attempted to swim out to the plane in an attempt to help the two who crashed in the river. First responders were able to pull the two males ashore, however lifesaving measures were not enough to save them.

Officials say the two males were unconscious and the plane was nearly completely underwater by the time first responders arrived at the scene late Tuesday. The airport is located just west of the Rock River in Jefferson County.
