Victim In Fatal Head-On Wreck Identified

The State Patrol reported that the man crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic, where he hit another vehicle head-on.

MEDFORD, WI -- Authorities in Taylor County have identified the man who died in a two-vehicle auto accident on Monday afternoon.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, 83-year-old Edwin E. Emstrom, of Medford, Wis., was driving his Ford Focus west on Highway M in the Town of Hammel when he drifted in his lane, and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.

The State Patrol said that Emstrom's vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Crystal Schaeffer head-on. Schaeffer, a 37-year-old woman from Gilman, Wis., was transported to the Aspirus hospital in Medford with non-life threatening injuries.

The State Patrol reported that Emstrom was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision, the State Patrol reported.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Department, Medford Fire Department, and Medford Ambulance all responded to the scene Monday to render aid.
