Bishop's Woods Public Hearing Set

Officials say they want to promote "well-planned, suitable and appropriate mixed-use developments."

BROOKFIELD, WI -- City officials are hosting a public hearing on Jan. 15 at City Hall as officials continue to develop plans to update the Bishop's Woods office park within the surrounding neighborhood.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7:45 p.m. at City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.

Officials say they want to promote "well-planned, suitable and appropriate mixed-use developments of primarily office oriented uses with limited residential, commercial and light industrial components within the selected district."

As part of the process, city officials are aiming to amend Brookfield's 2035 Comprehensive Plan in certain parts to accommodate a raft of new development ideas.

Here are several of the concepts being proposed by city officials in advance of the public hearing:

  • Development that enables the district to adapt to the work environment demands and lifestyle preferences of a multi-generational workforce, and supports walking, cycling, public transit and other modes of transportation where applicable.
  • Any hotel site should have suitable access to accessory commercial areas for convenience and shopping needs.
  • Pedestrian linkages to these commercial areas are preferred.
  • Diverse multiple family housing options, including live-work housing, and co-housing arrangements, to enhance choice and flexibility of residency near employment within the district.
  • The use of green neighborhood development standards, such as LEED and Living Community Challenge.
  • Creating developments that maintain a high quality of design and character for the surrounding neighborhood.
