BloodCenter to Host Declaration for Donations Blood Drive
Blood donors invited to honor those who save the day

Milwaukee, Wis. — June 23, 2015 — BloodCenter of Wisconsin will host the 14th annual Declaration for Donations Blood Drive Tuesday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Tommy Thompson Center at Wisconsin State Fair Park. As a token of gratitude, all attempting donors will receive a ticket to the Wisconsin State Fair (Aug. 6-16). Complimentary child care, parking and picnic food will also be provided.
Call 1-877-BE-A-HERO (1-877-232-4376) or visit www.bcw.edu/declarations to make an appointment.
The community is encouraged to donate in honor of several individuals who are not only heroes as long-time donors, but through their service to our country.
Honoring those who save the day
The Fourth of July holiday celebrates our independence and freedom, and brings to mind the many servicemen and women who have made that possible. Long-time blood donors like 84-year-old John “Jack” Noonan are heroes for service to our country, and to the patients whose lives they’ve enhanced and saved. Noonan has been a loyal blood donor for nearly 40 years.
“Donating blood is something anyone can do to literally save someone’s life,” said Noonan.
Noonan and fellow armed services veterans who are also long-time blood donors will be on hand June 30 to meet donors at the Declarations for Donations Blood Drive — a perfect opportunity to honor Noonan and others like him through a life-saving blood donation.
Significant summer need
Blood donations decrease in summer months, particularly around the Fourth of July holiday. Unfortunately the summer season is often when the need is the greatest to treat accident victims and others in emergency situations. Summer can often mean higher numbers of traumas than we see at other times of the year — which makes the need for O negative blood all the more critical.
Anyone 16 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate. Appointments are preferred to ensure a quick and convenient donation, but walk-in donors are also welcome. The entire process takes about an hour. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes birth date.
