Boston Store Employee Used Facebook in Theft Scheme, Complaint Alleges

Employee would look at another woman's Facebook page and use it to identify people who would then come in and get deep discounts on products, according to a criminal complaint.

A employee gave substantial discounts and free items to customers whose names and images she would be fed via another woman on Facebook, prosecutors allege.

Brittany M. English, 22, of Milwaukee, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Wednesday with felony retail theft. If convicted, she faces up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On June 13, Brookfield police officers were called to the store after an internal investigator discovered English was giving unauthorized discounts and free items to people who were coming through her line. On June 5, she gave away $84 worth of items in one transaction and on June 8, three more transactions cost the store another $623 in losses.

English was confronted about the transactions and she admitted to giving the discounts to people. She said another woman would put pictures up on her Facebook page of people to whom English should give the discounts, and English would receive money in exchange for the deals.

She will make her first court appearance Aug. 13.
