May 22, 2013 – BROOKFIELD, WI – On April 28, an EF-1 tornado with winds of 105 mph touched down in the community of Belmont in the town of Mason in Fayette County, Tennessee. That tornado destroyed the K-9 Animal Savior Rescue, killing a black kitten and a beagle puppy. The kennels for 127 other dogs at the animal shelter were ripped apart, dogs started escaping, kennels were turned upside down and the animals were trapped inside. Immediately following the storm, people gathered the more than 100 dogs that were loose, putting them in makeshift kennels.
