BROOKFIELD, WI — The Fresh Market announced that it is closing two Milwaukee-area stores in addition to stores in several other states. A closing date was not indicated in this week's announcement.
Besides the two Milwaukee-area stores, 13 more under-performing stores in Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Tennessee, Virginia and Illinois will close, according to the company.
Company officials said they decided to close the stores after finishing an organizational analysis, looking at its overall growth strategy and the long-term financial performance of the company, according to the article.

“Over the last eight months, our company has been executing a turnaround plan and we’ve seen great progress," said Larry Appel, CEO of The Fresh Market Inc., in a statement published in the Milwaukee Business Journal. "However, for a variety of reasons unique to each retail location, that progress is not evenly distributed and, as a result, we have decided to close these long-term, under-performing stores. We will work to relocate as many impacted employees as possible to other stores within our footprint.”
The Fresh Market in Brookfield is located at Brookfield Square and the Fox Point supermarket is in the Riverpoint Village Shopping Center.
