Brookfield Officials Consider New 124th Street Taco Bell
Some officials say the area is already crowded enough, while others say the Taco Bell is a well-thought-out plan.

BROOKFIELD, WI -- City officials in Brookfield are considering a developer's plan to build a new Taco Bell restaurant on a vacant lot at the southwest corner of Lisbon Road and 124th Street.
Steve Jeske of Haag Muller Architects answered questions before members of the public.
During the course of the hearing Brookfield officials raised concerns over signage and parking spots, noting that the brick sign outside Starbucks obstructs motorists from seeing cross traffic, and that limited parking may create congestion in the area.

During the hearing, Brookfield Director of Community Development Dan Ertl said the lot sizes were plotted several decades ago, and are much smaller than a typical lot would be today.
"It is a challenge to redevelop these properties, but this is our first proposal to redevelop this property in 30 years. Is it optimal? No, but it is an investment," he said referring to traffic patterns.

Ertl said there would be 17 customer parking places, which is in line with municipal standards.
Alderman Bill Carnell felt the traffic patterns would complicate getting into and out of the restaurant parking lot.
"For example, if you're heading north on 124th Street to get into Taco Bell, you'll have to turn left at a light onto Lisbon," he said. "But, then you have to up Lisbon, and make a U-turn to come back down to the entrance to the restaurant. I know, it doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?"
"I'm well-versed in that intersection," he said. "It's a mess."
