Brookfield Square Shooting: Mom Says Lyft Driver 'Told Lie'

BROOKFIELD, WI — Police from around the area are conducting a manhunt after a reported shooting at Brookfield Square mall late Wednesday.

According to Brookfield police, a Lyft driver picked up four passengers from a motel at 11 p.m. Wednesday, and transported them to Brookfield Square Mall - which closed at 9 p.m. that evening.

According to a WISN report, the mother of the arrested suspect said the Lyft driver acted out of line, and lied to police.

That Lyft driver blatantly told a lie, blatantly racially profiled those boys," Kiesha Taylor told WISN. "In these parts, we're all licensed to carry guns and to shoot first and ask questions later," Taylor said.

Police reported that at one point during the Lyft service, the driver saw that one of the passengers was brandishing a gun in the back seat.

Police say the driver exited the car, and then used his own gun to shoot at the passengers.

According to police, the passengers ran from the Lyft driver. Brookfield police caught one passenger and are looking for the other three. Police consider the suspects "armed and dangerous."

According to a WISN report, officers set up a perimeter in the Brookfield Square Mall area.

A call to Brookfield Square Mall Thursday morning by Patch.com resulted in mall security reporting that the mall is open for business, is safe for shoppers and that the shooting was considered an isolated incident.
