Chamber of Commerce Sets Up Fund For Businesses Dealing With Tragedy

The Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce has set up a fund to help businesses in the community deal with workplace tragedy, with the first proceeds to go to Azana Salon & Spa. 

"The Chamber acknowledges the need for the funds already established to help the victims and their families, and the Chamber board of directors felt it important to show their support to the business owner and the re-establishing of her business in the community,” said Carol White, the chamber's president, in a statement. 

The salon was the scene of a mass shooting in October. Three employees were shot and killed and four others were injured by Radcliffe Haughton, who took his own life after the rampage. 

Among those that were killed during the shooting were Zina Haughton, 42, the shooter's estranged wife, Cary L. Robuck, 35, of Racine, and Maelyn M. Lind, 38, of Oconomowoc.

“This is yet another example of how the community has rallied around Azana Salon and Spa during this incredibly difficult time," Tami Gemmell, owner of Azana, in a statement. 

"I am so grateful for the support we have and are receiving. Thank you Brookfield Chamber of Commerce for recognizing the needs of businesses that experience tragedy.”

Contributions to the fund can be made at any North Shore Bank location under the name "Brookfield Chamber Business Disaster Recovery Fund."
